Rep. Lee Yancey’s proposed amendments to the cannabis act were passed in the House on Wednesday. Among his suggested tweaks was explicit language to keep investigative reports in-house at the health department. “Any investigation, fine, suspension or revocation by a licensing agency shall be considered confidential” and exempt from the state’s public record laws, the amendment says. A bill filed by Rep. Lee Yancey, R-Brandon, would amend Mississippi law to remove fentanyl testing strips from a list of prohibited drug paraphernalia. Fentanyl is a highly potent and dangerous opioid that drug users can often unknowingly ingest when it is mixed into other products. Current law considers all testing equipment to be drug paraphernalia, but there has been a growing movement in other states to exempt fentanyl testing strips from such laws in an attempt to reduce overdose deaths. |
