Sept 5, 2014: NOLA: National Baptist Convention elects new president: Jerry Young of Jackson, Miss.
Among others voting in the election was pastor Willie Jones, of Morton, Miss., who saw Young as the most dependable candidate. "There are a great deal of fly-by-night religions that really do not seem to have a core foundation or world belief in our lord and savior Jesus Christ," Jones said. "Baptists are all but about to lose our identity. Many of the youth have no real knowledge of our history. Young is connected to that history. And he can take the convention forward.
