​When Anthony Parker was named Hattiesburg's chief of police by then-Mayor Johnny DuPree in June 2015, the department was in turmoil. Now, Parker, who has been in law enforcement for nearly 40 years, will be retiring at the end of the year.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as Hattiesburg’s chief of police," Parker said in a news release. "I am grateful to the citizens of this community and for the ability to serve under two great men — Mayor Johnny DuPree and Mayor Toby Barker. I have a lot of respect for both of them, and I am grateful for having an opportunity to serve a city I love."

  • Hattiesburg Police Chief Anthony Parker was first appointed in 2015 by then-Mayor Johnny DuPree. He was reappointed in 2017 by Mayor Toby Barker.
  • Before coming to Hattiesburg, Parker was chief of Crystal Springs Police Department, where he started as a patrol officer in 2009.
  • From 2001-09, Parker worked for the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation as a special agent/master sergeant, after working nearly 20 years as a trooper with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
  • Parker earned a bachelor's degree in athletic administration and coaching in 1979 from the University of Southern Mississippi and has additional training in numerous aspects of law enforcement.

The phone call from U.S. Rep. Trent Kelly came as a shock to Susan Parker.
“I want you to come to work for me,” Kelly said. “I want you to be my communications director.”
“He said there was a long, silent pause after he said that,” Parker said.
Then, it took about 30 minutes to decide that’s what she wanted to do. After all, she had been an on-camera news reporter at WTVA for 24 years and change was something she figured would be good for her.

​
The decision to keep these reports out of the public eye is at odds with what the Board of Health’s own medical marijuana program committee recently recommended. Head of the committee, Jim Perry, said he hoped the program would post enforcement actions it has taken to its website during a meeting on Jan. 26. 
“Other regulatory agencies … they post online when there is an enforcement action,” Perry said at the meeting. “As much as we can, we should err on the side of transparency… because it will tell people what they can learn from the lessons of others.”

Since spring, MPVR President MaryJo Perry told The Epoch Times that the organization’s membership has increased from 3,350 to 6,000. Perry and Vice President Lindey Hughes Magee formed the nonprofit in 2012 as Mississippi Parents for Vaccine Rights as a hub to network parents whose children had suffered injuries as a result of vaccines.

A leader of the parents' group, Mary Jo Perry of Pelahatchie, has children who are 24, 13 and 11. She said that when her youngest child was 5, he had seizures within 72 hours of having a vaccination. "I am convinced beyond any shadow of a doubt if I had had him vaccinated him when he was a tiny baby, we would not have him as he is today because of the adverse reaction," Perry said in an interview Thursday.

While naming Gee in September, Biden also nominated Michael Purnell, lieutenant and executive officer of the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol, and Dale Bell, a professional protection officer in the private sector, to serve as the north and south U.S. marshals, respectively. Hyde-Smith and Wicker have not indicated whether they support the nominations.
