Mike Hurst, a former assistant U.S. attorney who is running unopposed for the nomination but will face Democrat Attorney General Jim Hood in the fall, said Hood hasn't done enough. "It's an easy answer for the Attorney General's Office," Hurst said. "You just make it a priority. It's the number one priority of the FBI. It's the number one priority of the U.S. Attorney's Office. Attorney General Jim Hood only raised $45,197 through April but he reported $231,197 (most of that - $186,100 - he raised in May which ought to be on his next report). More than half of the money he raised came from the Democratic Attorneys General Association: $133,600. Hood's Republican opponent raised $155,997 and has about $150,000 cash-on-hand. In a press release Hurst referenced a recent Mason-Dixon Poll which put Hood at 55% and Hurst at 40%: a 6-point drop for Hood from his election four years ago and higher for Hurst than the Republican nominee at the same time. "We feel good about our initial fundraising only eight-weeks into the campaign," Hurst said.
