"We have realized that what is good for Natchez is good for Meadville, and what is good for Bude and Brookhaven is good for Franklin County and Roxie. This (passenger line proposal) has been talked about all over the state, but nobody has the resources we have in Southwest Mississippi," Reed said

Ultimately, he looks at it as an investment for all Mississippians. For every one dollar spent on tourism, there is a return to the state of Mississippi of $6.64," said Reed.

Lane B. Reed was born in 1970 and grew up on a small cattle and timber farm in McCall Creek. His parents were both public school teachers, instilled in him the importance of working hard. From an early age he was active member of the 4-H Club, participated in the Beef project, -showed cattle, judged livestock and land, and engaged in shooting sports. Reed even participated in several national 4-H events, was a statewide elected 4-H officer, and was finally inducted as a 4-H All-Star. When not in school, hunting and fishing was a priority when not working in the garden, the hay field, at Dillon & Smith Grocery Store or the Franklin Advocate newspaper. After graduating from Franklin County High School, Lane B. Reed went on to attend Mississippi State University where he worked his way through as a sports official and tutor in the Athletic Department. Reed was a John C. Stennis scholar in political science; a scholarship member of the Famous Maroon Band; and the State 2nd Vice-President of the College Republicans for the State of Mississippi. In 1992 he graduated from MSU Summa Cum Laude. That same year, Lane B. Reed became more actively involved in the Republican party and was elected a delegate to the State Republican Convention representing Franklin County, Mississippi. Reed was also selected to attend the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in February, 1992 in Charleston, South Carolina.
After graduating, Lane B. Reed continued his education studying law at the University of Mississippi where he was named one of fifteen national Gladys Pennington Houser Fellows in 1993. Reed graduated from the University of Mississippi school of law in December, 1994 and joined the law firm of McGehee, McGehee & Torrey in Meadville, Mississippi as an attorney in April, 1995 where he is currently a partner. Reed began work in school law representing the Franklin County School Board and government and health care law representing the Franklin County Memorial Hospital in 1995. Reed is a member of the Mississippi and National Council of School Attorneys. Reed, a litigator, has worked to defend various governmental boards, small businesses, and landowners. Reed has served on various committees of the Mississippi Bar, currently serving on the Governmental Law Committee.
Fighting for justice is important to Reed who was appointed Prosecutor for the Town of Meadville, Mississippi in December 2001 and served until July, 2013. Reed was next appointed prosecutor in the Town of Bude, Mississippi in June, 2005 where he still serves. Reed served one term as Franklin County Prosecutor and Youth Court Prosecutor from 2008-2012. Reed was appointed the Roxie, Mississippi Municipal Prosecutor in August, 2009 where he still serves. Lane B. Reed completed the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security’s Basic Active Shooter Course I in December, 2009. Reed is an active member of the Mississippi Prosecutors Association serving as Chairman of the City County Committee for many years. Reedjoined the Meadville Lions Club in 1995 and has been an active member of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce serving on the Membership Committee and as a Vice President.
Reed continues to manage his family’s pine and hardwood timber operation in Franklin and Lincoln Counties
Lane B. Reed is a member of the National Rifle Association and has been a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Bude, Mississippi where he has taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon. Reed loves music, and in 2002, Reed joined The Providentials, a Southern Gospel Quartet, based in Pike County, Mississippi where he toured and sang baritone until the group came off the road in December, 2010. Reed currently plays mandolin and sings lead and harmony vocals with the bluegrass gospel group, JohnstonGrass, based in Busy Corner. Reed also serves as General Counsel for the Southern Gospel Music Promoters Association after appointment in September, 2005.
