Mar 20, 2023: Mississippi Today: ​Reeves vetoes health insurance bills that experts, watchdogs say would help consumers
​One of the bills would have aimed to speed up the prior authorization process. The other would have allowed the insurance department to collect data about how insurance companies reimburse providers and fine them if they do so unfairly.

Mar 16, 2023: WLBT: ​Rankin County sheriff violated public records law by withholding incident reports, judge says
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department violated the Mississippi Public Records Act for refusing to give incident reports about the deaths of three men killed by sheriff’s deputies or while in their custody, a Rankin County court ruled last week.

Mar 9, 2023: Magnolia State Live: Court: Mississippi mayor wrong in veto of disputed contract
​The mayor of Mississippi’s capital city acted improperly when he tried to veto a garbage-collection contract the city council had rejected, the state Supreme Court ruled Thursday.  In an 8-0 decision, the high court agreed with a judge’s ruling last year in a dispute between Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba and the Jackson City Council. Justices wrote that “a mayor may only veto an ordinance that has been adopted by the City Council.”

March 3, 2023: Columbus Dispatch: ​Law limits citizen rights to protect property
​While state law allows citizens to protect their property and even make citizens’ arrests, law enforcement officials in the Golden Triangle said Thursday those rights have their limits.
Those limits include “appropriate and reasonable” use of force, the presence of an imminent threat of bodily harm and whether someone has the legal right to be where they are.

Brett DiBiase, a former professional wrestler and son of WWE’s “Million Dollar Man,” pleaded guilty Thursday to a new federal charge that involves his brother, Ted “Teddy” DiBiase Jr., as an alleged co-conspirator.

Mar 1, 2023: ​Miami Herald: Mississippi House panel OKs longer Medicaid after births
​A Mississippi House committee advanced a bill Tuesday that would provide women with a full year of Medicaid coverage after giving birth, just days after Republican Gov. Tate Reeves voiced his support for the measure. The bill passed the House Medicaid Committee on a voice vote, with some opposition.
