Ladner began his employment in education in 1978 as a 10th-grade teacher at Forrest County Agricultural High School. He spent 32 years in the field until the year 2010 in positions ranging from principal to superintendent. He stepped in to help Hattiesburg Public School District after James Bacchus resigned in the midst of a financial crisis in December 2015.
