For more than three decades, Ralph Dance has protected and served the people of Corinth. For the next four years, he will just serve the citizens.
Dance worked for the Corinth Police Department for 32 years, the final eight years as police chief. In September, he was elected mayor, defeating two-term incumbent Tommy Irwin. His first day as mayor was Nov. 7.
“I walked out of the police department on Friday and into the mayor’s office on Monday,” Dance said.

Corinth Police Chief Ralph Dance will be the city's next mayor, but a couple of candidates in another race will have to wait until next week to find out who won.
A count of Republican affidavit ballots Wednesday confirmed Dance is the unofficial winner of the mayor's race over incumbent Tommy Irwin.

April 6, 2022: Gulf Live: ​City of Gautier begins process to acquire Belk property rights by eminent domain
The day after the story published, the newspaper received an email from Gautier City Attorney Josh Danos which read, in part: “The City has no plans to purchase or acquire by eminent domain the real property owned by Belk. Additionally, there is currently no time line for development of the former Singing River Mall property.” The email also demanded the newspaper print a “correction”. No such correction was published.

Jan 16, 2020: Clarion Ledger: ​New Hinds Co. Board of Supervisors fires county administrator, board attorney on 3-2 vote
​The board fired County Administrator Carmen Davis, who had been administrator since 2010. Davis had been a former Detroit city employee before moving to Mississippi. The county administrator runs the day-to-day operations of the county.
The Board of Supervisors gave no reason for terminating Davis. The vote was 3-2, with supervisors Calhoun, Graham and David Archie voting not to retain Davis.

"But we're pretty proud of the measures we put in place and we're going to continue this effort until the county administrator decides she's going to move forward and fix the flaws of this building so we won't have to take these extra precautions," Sheriff Lewis said. He is criticizing Hinds County Administrator Carmen Davis on the funding issue.

Democrats also have a candidate in Districts 10 and 40. In District 10, Senator Neil Whaley will be challenged, again, by Democrat Andre DeBerry. Whaley defeated DeBerry by more than 15 points four years ago and the district has been made more Republican post-redistricting. In District 40, Senator Angela Hill is being challenged by Andy Rishton in the primary. She should win that before facing Thomas Lehr in the general election. Hill defeated Lehr by more than 50 points in 2019.

​A Mississippi police chief killed himself soon after learning that authorities were investigating allegations that he illegally sold city-owned firearms, including an assault rifle, a sheriff’s official said Friday.
Hancock County Chief Deputy Don Bass told The Associated Press that Bay St. Louis police chief Mike DeNardo illegally sold one city-owned assault rifle, and that authorities were looking into allegations that other city-owned weapons were sold.

​“Andre was an extremely organized, prepared person,” said former alderman Greg Denyer. “When Katrina hit, he knew what was going to happen before it happened. His innate instinct to order gas -- we had gasoline in Ocean Springs to not only run the heavy equipment, but police and fire vehicles as well. We had the gasoline we needed when a lot of places didn’t.”
Denyer also noted Kaufman’s reputation for running his department with an iron fist, but quickly added that Kaufman was extremely loyal to those under his leadership.

​A Democratic primary candidate will get her day in court as she seeks to overturn the results of a 2015 southwest Mississippi state House election.
The Mississippi Supreme Court ruled 8-1 on Thursday that Tasha Dillion should get to argue her challenge to the results of her House District 98 race against Democratic Rep. David Myers of McComb.

Democrat incumbent Bo Eaton won reelection in a tied race settled by drawing straws. His Republican challenger Mark Tullos claims the race should not have ended in a tie because affidavit votes were improperly counted and removing those votes would instead give him the win. The other petition is by Tasha Dillon who lost by 144 votes to incumbent David Myers in the District 98 Democratic Primary.

Oct 3, 2014: Gulf Live reported that Mississippi's Medicaid enrollment has grown since January. Medicaid director David Dzielak (JELL-ick) told legislative budget writers Friday that the biggest reason for the enrollment increase is a new type of income calculation. Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant, Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves and House Speaker Philip Gunn, all Republicans, oppose Medicaid expansion because they say they don't believe the federal government's promise to pay most of the expenses.
