Participating by remote video feed from Iraq, Brigadier General Collins spoke to reporters about ongoing security operations in Iraq. He discussed the capture of more than 1,500 terrorists, 28,000 weapons, 18,000 pounds of munitions, and 8,000 pounds of explosives. General Collins also talked about improvements in health care, electrical services, and other civil affairs projects. Following his remarks, he responded to questions and comments from the reporters. Among the topics he addressed were insurgency attacks, education of Iraqi national forces, and security for the upcoming election. Mr. Whitman moderated the questions.

General Collins began his career when he enlisted in the Mississippi Army National Guard’s Company B, 1st Battalion, 198th ArmorRegimentin March 1977. He was commissioned in July 1980 upon completion of StateOfficer Candidate School. He has served in various command and staff positions in units at every level to include Company, Battalion, Regiment, Brigade, and the Adjutant General’s primary staff in both a traditional and Active Guard Reserve status. General Collins served on active duty in Operation Desert Shield/Storm andaswell as commanding the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team during combat operations in Operation Iraqi Freedom from2004-2006.Healso served as Director, Mobilization Forces, United States Army Forces Command from February 2006 to October 2007.
