The Hancock County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday voted to reappoint former Supervisor Steve Seymour to the Gulf Coast Planning and Development District (SMPD), but not before a tense and divided discussion.
The board voted 3-2 to reappoint Seymour. Supervisors David Yarborough, Greg Shaw, and Darrin "Bo" Ladner cast "yes" votes. Supervisors Blaine Lafontaine and Scotty Adam cast "no" votes.

After three dozen years with the Tupelo Police Department, Police Chief Bart Aguirre will retire at the end of June.
“I will be 72 this year, and with the new administration coming in, I felt this was the best time to retire,” Aguirre said on Friday. “I have already met with (the human resources department) and got everything is order.”

At Tuesday’s meeting, the Tupelo City Council voted unanimously to confirm John Quaka to replace Interim Police Chief Jackie Clayton, who is set to retire at the end of the year. Clayton was appointed Interim Chief after Bart Aguirre retired this Summer.

"After reviewing the record, we find that the evidence introduced at trial was insufficient to support Allen’s conviction for embezzlement," Court of Appeals Judge Virginia Carlton wrote in the opinion released Tuesday. "Therefore, we reverse and render a judgment of acquittal on that count."

The Waveland Police Department has a new chief Wednesday morning. Veteran officer David Allen was appointed to the position by city aldermen during a board meeting that went late into Tuesday night. The board confirmed Allen in a two to two vote, with the mayor breaking the tie.
David Allen was a sheriff's deputy in Arizona before coming to Waveland as patrolman. He's been an investigator, the head of Waveland's cyber crime unit and served as acting chief for a time. Allen became Waveland Police Chief on June 24, 2013.

In a court filing, attorneys for the plaintiffs and for the defendants in the Mississippi Department of Corrections agreed that nobody involved in the lawsuits admitted liability or responsibility to anyone else in the suits.
